~にとって
for / from the standpoint of
~にとって attaches to a noun, usually a person or group, and means “for ...” or “from the standpoint of ...”. It is formed as Noun + にとって.
What follows is almost always a judgment or evaluation, such as 大切 (important), 難しい (difficult), or 便利 (convenient), not an action.
Evaluating something from a standpoint
Use ~にとって to say who the following judgment is true for. The same thing can be easy for one person and hard for another; ~にとって names whose perspective you mean.
私にとって家族は大切です。
“For me, family is important.”

Noun + にとって
- 私(わたし)= I → 私にとって(わたしにとって)= for me
- 子供(こども)= child → 子供にとって(こどもにとって)= for children
- 学生(がくせい)= student → 学生にとって(がくせいにとって)= for students
Key idea
~にとって sets the viewpoint: for the person or group named, the statement that follows is true. It introduces an evaluation, not an action.
